The first picture of the month - the inspiration for the series:

"This month [February/March 1999] features a picture from 1994/95 with friend Gerry DiGiusto. The picture was taken in Geneva at the Cité Universitaire, in the Bâ‰timent C hallway, to be exact. We were studying in Geneva on our junior year abroad. Gerry was joining the Smith program from Bowdoin. He is now working at the Department of Justice in DC."
"This month features a picture from the 1995/96 academic year at Smith College. It is dedicated to Hopkins House, a wonderful house at Smith that will be demolished in mid-May this year. This picture was taken at the senior dinner in Hopkins in the Spring of '96. Senior dinner is an important Smith tradition in celebration of house seniors. After the dinner, younger students perform skits about the graduating seniors and later in the evening, seniors will away some of their cherished posessions to the younger generation. My friend Stephanie Kendall and I are enjoying the festivities in the Hopkins dining room."
"As a student of popular culture, I couldn't just stand back and not take part in the whole Star Wars phenomenon. Here I am in Los Angeles about a month ago (May 8th) saying hi to people who had stood in line for a month in front of Mann's Chinese Theatre to see Episode I - the Phantom Menace."
"This year was my 3rd year college reunion. More importantly, it was the year of a special Hopkins House Reunion since this was the last year the houses would still be standing at Reunion. Hopkins House alumnae descended on the College in large numbers. At the same time, I got a chance to see "my" first years from my Head Resident year graduate."
"About a month ago, my roommate Kati and I hosted a cosy "Fab Women of Princeton Unite" dinner party. My good friends (from left to right) Maria, Beverley, Ann, and Kati were there. We had a great time. In the past couple of months I've finally started understanding why older friends have told me that some of the friendships you make in graduate school will be some of the most precious ever."

In one word: DONE!!!!!

Let me elaborate: I took my General Examinations for my Master's (or more importantly, my "All But Dissertation" status) at Princeton this month. This was the last time (as far as I can tell) that I was tested on other people's work as opposed to my own. And now on to some really exciting research!!
The picture above shows the three professors on my committee. I'm below contemplating work a few days before my Generals. (That photo is courtesy of fellow Ms. Post-Generals Ann.)

My brother's getting married!
In general, I'm not so excited about the institution of marriage, but in this case I'm very psyched about the occasion.. or what led up to it in any case. My brother is really really happily in love and I'm very very happy for him. He really deserves it and so this marriage is a wonderful thing. He's honored me with the duty of being best person so I'm spending my spare time these days thinking about cute moments of his childhood...
My brother got married a few weeks ago.
In general, I'm not so excited about the institution of marriage, but in this case I was very psyched about the event.. or what led up to it in any case. My brother is really really happily in love and I'm very very happy for him. He really deserves it and so this marriage is a wonderful thing. I just met Michele (his wife) recently and she's wonderful. All the best to the young couple!
I spent two weeks in Israel in the beginning of the summer through a Birthright Israel program sponsored by Hillel. I had a fabulous time. Parts of my photo album are already up describing all that we did.

As usual, I had a birthday party in December, but this year's turned out bigger than previous ones. Tons of fun, too.

I spent some time in Budapest in April. I took a ton of photos.. for now I just put up pictures of some sights. Later, I will add photos of my family and friends. We had the biggest family reunion ever which was quite exciting.
My parents were visiting at the Cold Spring Harbor Labs as guests of Dr. Jim Watson during January-March, 2002. I visited them a few times during their stay, it was wonderful to get to see them so often.
